“My love, do you know that your eyes
are like stars brightly beaming?
I bring you and sing you a Moonlight Serenade”
(Glenn Miller, 01.03.1904 – 05.12.1944 & Mitchell Parish, 10.07.1900 – 31.03.1993)
The DCC Spring Concert is just over a month away and things are beginning to take shape. The programme includes swing songs and sad songs, a Sinatra standard, songs from the shows, folksongs and much more, some of which we don’t even know yet. Rufus, our Musical Director, loves to spring a surprise and add something new at the eleventh hour.
He’s eternally optimistic about what we can achieve and somehow, despite our fears we do get there in the end. If you’ve been to one of our concerts you’ll know that you’ll also get a chance to sing with us – and it probably won’t be something familiar.
When I joined the choir in 2013, we sang mostly in unison and occasionally in three parts; Soprano, Alto and Men. Now we frequently sing seven part harmonies. It’s a testimony to the Rufus gentle teaching method that we surprise, and often even surpass, ourselves.
So, about the concert. ‘Moonlight Serenade’ will be on at the Hemel Hempstead Methodist Church, Northridge Way on Saturday 10th May at 6.30pm (details to the right). The Church is one of our favourite venues, the acoustics are brilliant, the chairs are very comfortable and there are lots of loos!
The church is fully accessible on all floors and there is dedicated parking for Blue Badge holders. The icing on the cake is the spacious upstairs entertaining room where there will be drinks and home-made goodies to share after the singing. ‘What’s not to like?’
We look forward to entertaining you on the 10th. Performance is all about communication and the boost we get from an enthusiastic audience is a huge part of our enjoyment. To walk away uplifted at the end of a concert is a wonderful thing. Many thanks to all of you who’ve come along before to support and applaud us.
The choir meets at the Church of the Resurrection, Grovehill, in school term time. Our rehearsals are on Tuesday mornings between 9.45 and 11.35. We welcome new members at any time, there are no auditions and we have a lot of fun. If you’re interested in joining an enthusiastic group of singers, just come along and see whether we’re for you.
