St John’s Christmas Tree Festival
Friday 13 – Tuesday 17 December 2024
We are hoping to bring Christmas Joy to Boxmoor this year with the theme chosen for our Christmas Tree Festival at St John’s Church. There will be over 40 trees, inside and outside the church. The indoor trees will be lit and decorated, and the outdoor trees brightly lit, shining a light in a deep and dark December.
We are sure our decorators will excel themselves as always with their colourful impressions of the theme. The indoor trees are decorated by local schools and organisations, by talented individuals too. The outdoor trees are free for viewing at any time – just walk past and enjoy them, especially when the daylight is fading! The admission fee to view the decorated indoor trees is just £3 for adults and accompanied children enter free of charge.
Festival times:
Friday 13 December 10 am – 5 pm
Saturday 14 December 10 am – 5 pm
Sunday 15 December 12 noon – 5 pm
Monday 18 December 10 am – 5 pm
Tuesday 19 December 10 am – 5 pm
Please note that this year the Festival will be open on the Sunday after the morning services, as there is no service that evening. The Carol Service is the following week.
On Saturday 14 December there will be the usual Outdoor Carols Around the Trees, led by Mike Macey, Vicar of Boxmoor, assisted by Director of Music, Keith Beniston on the keyboard, starting at 2 pm and ending with a visit from Santa with plenty of sweets for all the young folk and all the young at heart! The former practice of singing carols round the indoor trees on the Saturday afternoon of the Christmas Tree Festival was adapted during the pandemic so a much wider community could sing carols (socially distanced) around the outdoor trees. This has now become a very popular part of the annual Boxmoor calendar, so do come along if you can and sing your hearts out – the more the merrier. Hot dogs and glühwein (mulled wine) will be available from 1.45 to 3 pm on the Saturday to keep you warm as you sing. This is in addition to the usual refreshments served in the Hall.
Tell all your families and friends and make the Christmas Tree Festival a special part of your Christmas celebrations!
