We went to Church Stretton and we had a wonderful time. The weather was fantastic. We sang in a charity concert on Saturday August 17th, alongside two local choirs; Ludlow Male Voice Choir and Bella Acapella. The evening raised over £5,000 for Ludlow based charity, Caitlin’s Kickstart Award.
We stayed in the Eaton Manor Estate. The accommodation was excellent and the help we got from the owners and staff went far beyond our expectations. On Sunday afternoon we took part in Songs of Praise at St. Edith’s, the estate church, and were treated to a sumptuous tea made by the congregation.
On Sunday evening some of the party entertained us in our cabaret which has become a traditional event on tours. Audrey Naylor danced for us, symbolising the experience of growing older, moved some to tears.
Thanks are due to so many. To Russell our driver, from Mason’s, who helped in so many ways, moving heavy equipment and suitcases, a large number of cool boxes for the cooks and filming our Saturday night concert.
To all the singers who took on board learning three new songs in three rehearsals for the concert, including the tricky Rhythm of Life in four parts and an unfamiliar version of Siyahmba.
To the cooks, Jenny and Sue who fed us magnificently on a tight budget.
To our ‘Strong Men’ Doug and Paul.
To our non-singing plus one, Dave, who manned the bar and helped in many other ways.
And finally, as always,
To Rufus and Judi, with thanks for all they do for us and giving us the confidence to sing three new pieces, including Rufus’ own ‘Love Divine’, for the first time.
So, what now! We’re back at rehearsals and our next big thing is a performance in the Boxmoor Playhouse on Friday October 4th. We look forward to welcoming you.
