I WONDER how many people know that there’s a theatre right in the middle of Boxmoor?
Some of you are our regular customers, of course, but others will have been happily walking past the Boxmoor Playhouse for years, without even knowing that it’s there: on St John’s Road, next door but one to the Steamcoach pub and opposite St John’s Church.
Hemel Hempstead Theatre Company is not professional but we own the sturdy, brick built theatre, which was formerly St John’s church hall, and now incorporates office, bar, green room, toilets, kitchen, workshop and a theatre which seats just over 200 people or provides a brilliant venue for weddings or birthday parties.
We’re busy just now with this year’s Spring drama production, to be presented from April 17th – 20th. This year we’re hoping to make people laugh, despite the dreadful news and weather, with ‘Allo, ‘Allo, based on the well-known TV comedy series about a French restaurant during World War Two.
After that, from June 19th-22nd, we shall be giving a home (temporarily) to Audrey the man-eating plant, in the musical Little Shop of Horrors.
Summer School 24, is The Wizard of Oz, which begins on Monday, August 12th. After a week of intensive rehearsals, the youngsters will present a performance on Saturday, August 17th. The registration pack will be available this month.
And Shakespeare comes to Boxmoor in the autumn, with Much Ado About Nothing, which will be on-stage from October 16th-19th.
