St John’s Christmas Tree Festival
Friday 15 – Tuesday 19 December 2023
This year’s Christmas Tree Festival at St John’s Church, Boxmoor has “Peace on Earth” as its theme. Sadly, this feels particularly appropriate at present! There will be over 40 trees, inside and outside the church. The indoor trees will be lit and decorated, and the outdoor trees brightly lit, shining a light in a deep and dark December.
We are sure our decorators will find ingenious ways of representing their impressions of the theme. The outdoor trees are free for viewing at any time – just walk past and enjoy them, especially when the daylight is fading! The admission fee to view the decorated indoor trees is just £2.50 for adults (the same as last year) and accompanied children enter free of charge.
Festival times:
Friday 15 December 10am – 5pm
Saturday 16 December 10am – 5pm
(On Sunday the church is open only for Services)
Monday 18 December 10am – 5pm
Tuesday 19 December 10am – 5pm
On Saturday 16 December there will be the usual Outdoor Carols Around the Trees, led by the Vicar of Boxmoor, assisted by Director of Music, Keith Beniston on the keyboard, starting at 2 pm and ending with a visit from Santa with plenty of sweets for all the kids and all the young at heart! In the pandemic, the former practice of singing carols around the indoor trees took on a new form – singing carols around the outdoor trees. This has now become part of the annual Boxmoor calendar and is very popular, so do come along if you can and sing your hearts out – the more the merrier. Hot dogs and glühwein (mulled wine) will be available from 1.45pm to 3pm on the Saturday to keep you warm as you sing. This is in addition to the usual refreshments served in the Hall.
Tell all your families and friends and make the Christmas Tree Festival a special part of your Christmas celebrations!
