When we received a special request from a local care home for one of their 96-year-old residents to watch our ballet classes at Whelpley Village Hall on a Saturday morning we were more than happy to help. We then discovered that the resident was Romayne Grigorova who trained with the Royal Ballet, had danced alongside Margot Fonteyn, received an MBE for her services to dance and had continued to teach ballet until the age of 90. What an incredible opportunity for BDA’s pupils to meet and dance for a professional ballerina.
Romayne watched classes all morning from our pre-primary ballet dancers aged from 3, up to some of our more senior pupils aged 14. Her eyes lit up when she heard the classical music start and it was clear that watching these children brought back beautiful memories for her. Our pupils sat in awe as she recounted memories from her career and showed photos from her professional performances. She also provided constructive feedback to some of our dancers who performed their competition solos for her. Before she left, she presented the Academy with a signed copy of a beautiful ‘Classical Ballet Technique’ book.
At Bovingdon Dance Academy, we are always seeking out incredible opportunities that will create memories that last a life time for our pupils. In July 2022, we took 40 of our oldest pupils to perform on the track in the Silverstone Formula One Qualifiers and we are currently planning a trip to perform at Disneyland Paris next year. Last month, 260 of our 300 pupils performed in our 10th Anniversary show, ‘Wanderlust’ at The Eric Moorecambe Centre in Harpenden to an audience of 500+. We currently offer classes in ballet, tap, modern theatre, acrobatic arts, street, commercial, musical theatre and contemporary from our venues in Bovingdon, Whelpley Hill and Hemel Hempstead.
