Road safety continues to be our priority, both addressing speeding and anti-social parking, particularly associated with the school run. In April residents will be able to comment on plans which are being finalised to introduce traffic calming and a pedestrian crossing to Fishery Road. Other recent and pending improvements include:
• Bollards around Collet School have stopped dangerous parking and improved visibility pulling out into Warners End Road. Improvements will be coming soon on Heath Lane, as agreed in collaboration with South Hill School
• Double yellow lines stopped the anti-social parking on the verge near KD Towers. Following a public consultation, double yellows will be coming to the corner of Anchor Lane and Beechfield too.
• The bin lorries can now get into Glendale since we stopped the bad parking that used to block the road
• Now the evenings are lighter, the Boxmoor Drivesafe Scheme will restart and deter speeding drivers on Green End Road and Gravel Hill Terrace.
You will have seen some of the pavements are looking smarter. Anchor Lane and the apron by the pedestrian crossing have been resurfaced. Next for improvements is Melsted Road, which is overdue for some attention.
In the autumn, we cleared leaves and weeded the pavement from the pedestrian crossing on St Johns Road to Northridge Way. In the recent snow fall we provided and spread grit on the pavements around the shops to make them safer. In the first week of April we will run working groups on litter and weeding as part of the ‘Great British Spring Clean’. Email us if you are free to lend a hand – boxmoorcouncillors@gmail.com.
Since Christmas, we have been consulting with residents on Beechfield Road about improving parking arrangements by extending the verge hardening between Crouchfield and Anchor Lane. We intend that Infrastructure Levy funding from local developments with pay for this enhanced parking.
Finally, we continue to push the case for appropriate development both at the station site through the ‘Four and No More Campaign’ and on a smaller scale in channelling residents’ concerns about oversized ‘in-fill’ developments.
If you wish to discuss these or any other issues, then we look forward to hearing from you!
