Consultation: Westbrook Hay Fields
At the Box Moor Trust, we are continually looking to improve how we manage the estate for our local communities and residents, whilst ensuring it provides a rich natural habitat for our native wildlife. We would like to take the opportunity to gather your views on the management of the areas that surround the Old Barn at Westbrook Hay.
Due in part to the conservation efforts of the Box Moor Trust team we have seen the return of many species in the area, such as the ground-nesting Skylark, which you will now hear singing above Bovingdon Reach during the summer months. To further support conservation and wildlife in the area, we are looking to split Bovingdon Reach into four new sections. The new areas will be divided by new fencing and newly planted native hedge-rows to encourage wildlife connectivity in the local area.
By doing this, it will enable us to effectively manage the area for the benefit of native wildlife and enable more effective conservation grazing from our livestock. It will also give us opportunities to enhance the visitor experience.
We will also be taking this opportunity to assess the impact of dog walking across the Westbrook Hay area, where we may look to have some dog free areas.
We would love to have your thoughts and opinions on these changes. Please email any comments to admin@boxmoortrust.org.uk by 10th June 2022. To help facilitate feedback, we will be holding a meet-and-greet type event at Old Barn car park, Westbrook Hay, where you can discuss your thoughts and walk the areas concerned with the Estate Manager. Date: 7th June 10:30am.
